Saint Ravidas
“The Lord cannot be found in palaces, but only in the hearts of the pure.” Ravidas believed that true spirituality lies within, not in external symbols or grand structures. The purity of heart and soul is where one connects with the divine.
Guru Ravidas was a 15th-century saint and poet whose life and teachings are celebrated in the Bhakti movement. Born in Varanasi, India, he was a cobbler by trade but his spiritual compositions reflected profound philosophical depth. Ravidas spoke against caste discrimination and advocated equality, emphasizing devotion to God over ritualistic practices. His verses, characterized by simplicity and lyrical beauty, are included in the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhism. Revered by many, his legacy inspires a quest for social justice and spiritual awakening. His Jayanti, a day commemorating his birth, is observed with great reverence, especially by the Ravidassia community.
