Frida Kahlo
Frida Kahlo (1907–1954) was a Mexican painter whose art fused surrealism, symbolism, and indigenous tradition. Stricken by polio as a child and severely injured in a bus accident, she endured lifelong pain, channeling suffering into vivid self-portraits. Her works explored identity, gender, and the female body, often blending personal anguish with cultural motifs. Married to Diego Rivera, their turbulent relationship influenced her creativity. Kahlo’s home, La Casa Azul, became a sanctuary of art and politics. Though marginalized in her time, she later emerged as a feminist and cultural icon, celebrated for resilience, originality, and uncompromising authenticity across the world.
