Swami Haridas

Swami Haridas (1480–1573) was a revered saint, poet, and musician of the Bhakti movement, celebrated as the spiritual guide of Tansen, the legendary musician of Akbar’s court. Born in Rajpur near Vrindavan, he was a devotee of Lord Krishna and composed numerous devotional songs in Braj Bhasha, suffused with mysticism and love for the divine. His compositions, known as bhajans and padas, emphasized surrender, purity, and ecstatic union with God. Swami Haridas is credited with shaping the Dhrupad style of Hindustani classical music. His legacy endures in Vrindavan, where his samadhi remains a site of devotion and musical homage.
