Upendra Rao, popularly known as Upendra, is an Indian actor, director, producer, screenwriter, playback singer, lyricist, and politician. Born on September 18, 1968, in Karnataka, he began his career as a writer and assistant director before making his directorial debut with “Tharle Nan Maga” in 1992. His breakthrough came with the film “Om” (1995), which became a cult classic. Known for his versatile roles in Kannada cinema, he has also worked in Telugu and Tamil films. Upendra received an Honorary Doctorate from Angkor University in 2015 and later ventured into politics.

Upendra is celebrated for his innovative storytelling, non-linear narratives, and layered meanings. His films often address controversial topics, explore the psychological dimensions of characters, and blend humor with social themes.
