Walter Russell

Walter Bowman Russell (1871–1963), born in Boston, was a self-taught polymath who excelled in painting, sculpture, architecture, music, and philosophy. Experiencing mystical states from childhood, he believed cosmic consciousness was accessible to all. His allegorical art gained acclaim, and later he sculpted busts of Edison, Twain, and Gershwin. Russell proposed a “universal law of rhythmic balanced interchange,” outlined in The Secret of Light and The Message of the Divine Iliad, challenging mainstream science. With his wife Lao, he founded the University of Science and Philosophy in Virginia, promoting spiritual-scientific synthesis. He taught that genius arises from inner attunement, not external validation
