God is the ground and Power of Being

Paul Tillich

Paul Tillich, born in Germany in 1886, became one of the most influential Protestant theologians of the 20th century. He integrated existential philosophy with Christian theology, emphasizing God as the “Ground of Being” rather than a being among others. His concept of “ultimate concern” defined faith as the depth of human existence, transcending dogma. Tillich’s Systematic Theology and The Courage to Be explored anxiety, meaning, and the human quest for transcendence. Exiled from Nazi Germany, he taught in the U.S., shaping theology and philosophy alike. Tillich’s thought continues to inspire dialogue between religion, culture, and existential human experience. He died in 1965.

Doubt is not the opposite of faith; it is an element of faith.
