Panini
Panini was an ancient Indian scholar who wrote a comprehensive and scientific treatise on Sanskrit grammar called Aṣṭādhyāyī. He is considered the father of linguistics and the first descriptive linguist. He lived between the 6th and 4th century BCE in Gandhara. His work influenced many other Indian and Western scholars. He devised a system of rules, symbols, and categories to describe the structure and meaning of language. He also analyzed the formation of words, compounds, and sentences. His treatise is generative, descriptive, and logical. He is widely respected and admired for his genius and originality.
