Kazi Nazrul Islam (1899-1976) was a Bengali poet, musician, and revolutionary, known as the “Rebel Poet” for his fierce opposition to oppression and injustice. He is the national poet of Bangladesh and his works include poetry, music, novels, and essays that emphasize themes of equality, humanism, and anti-imperialism. Nazrul’s compositions, known as Nazrul Geeti, are celebrated for their lyrical beauty and revolutionary spirit. His poem “Bidrohi” (“The Rebel”) is particularly famous. Despite facing imprisonment and censorship, Nazrul’s legacy continues to inspire movements for social and political change.
