Mythical Semi-Aquatic creature with trunk of the elephant, jaws of the crocodile, ears of the mouse or ape, extruding teeth of wild swine, scales of a fish, the tail plume of the peacock and feet of the lion.

Makara is also one of the 12 rashis as per Jothisa and this is the original creature which is simplified to a crocodile these days.
