Marternitsa

A martenitsa is a traditional Bulgarian adornment made of white and red yarn, usually in the form of two dolls or a twisted bracelet. It is worn from March 1st until the first signs of spring, such as a blooming tree or a returning bird. It symbolizes health, fertility, and the balance of life and death. It is also a gift of friendship and goodwill, exchanged among Bulgarians on Baba Marta Day.
