Why Relationships Matter More Than Networking

As I have moved through different roles, industries, countries and communities, I have met many people.

Some interactions were transactional.

Others became meaningful relationships.

The difference matters.

Networking often focuses on exchange.

Relationships focus on connection.

One asks:

“What can I gain?”

The other asks:

“How can we relate?”

The most valuable opportunities in my life rarely emerged from strategic networking.

They emerged from genuine relationships.

Conversations built on trust.

Collaboration built on mutual respect.

Friendships developed through shared experiences.

When relationships become only a means to an end, something important is lost.

People are no longer seen as people.

They become resources.

I have gradually come to believe that meaningful relationships create value far beyond any transaction.

Opportunities may come and go.

Connections remain.

And often it is those connections that make the journey worthwhile.
