I’m also not sure of cinema as a medium of education. Documentaries can be educative, not feature films
Naseeruddin Shah
Naseeruddin Shah, born in 1950 in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, is a towering figure in Indian cinema and theatre. Trained at Aligarh Muslim University, the National School of Drama, and FTII, he became a leading face of parallel cinema with films like Nishant, Aakrosh, Sparsh, and Masoom. His versatility spans Umrao Jaan, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Maqbool, and international projects like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Founder of Motley Productions, he championed theatre with Waiting for Godot. Honoured with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, Shah’s artistry blends realism, intensity, and wit, making him one of India’s most enduring and respected performers.
I don’t think anybody becomes an actor to serve theatre or to serve art anywhere. We all become actors because we are insecure people who want to be looked at. That was the reason I became an actor.
