Jamsetji Tata
Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata (1839–1904), founder of the Tata Group, was a visionary industrialist and philanthropist who transformed India’s economic destiny. Born in Navsari, he graduated from Elphinstone College and began in his father’s trading firm before launching his own in 1868. He established Empress Mills, pioneered modern textiles, and built the Taj Mahal Hotel. His foresight birthed Tata Steel, Tata Power, and the Indian Institute of Science. A patriot and humanist, he believed industry must serve society. His philanthropy in education and healthcare laid enduring foundations. Jamshedpur, named after him, symbolizes his legacy as the Father of Indian Industry.
