Saint Namdev
Saint Namdev (1270–1350), revered Bhakti poet-saint from Maharashtra, embodied devotion to Lord Vithoba of Pandharpur. Born in Narsi, he transcended caste boundaries, singing kirtans that emphasized love, equality, and surrender to God. His abhangas—simple yet profound verses—resonated with common people, weaving spiritual truth into everyday life. Namdev’s teachings spread across India, influencing Sikhism; his hymns are preserved in the Guru Granth Sahib. He wandered widely, sharing divine love through song, and became a symbol of humility and inclusivity. Namdev’s legacy endures as a reminder that heartfelt devotion, not ritual or status, is the true path to liberation.
O Mind, why do you wander? The one you seek is closer than your own breath
